George A. Sell, Jr. born in Detroit MI on November 9th, 1946 and died December 22nd, 2016 in Sanibel, formerly from Barrington, IL. Preceded by his parents, George A. Sell, Sr. and Ruth Atkinson Sell of Palatine, IL. Father-in-law Robert A. Flynn of Sanibel. Brother-in-law, Chip Hayward, of Chicago, IL. He leaves his wife of almost 39 years, Susan Hayward Sell, and his best friend and son, Graham Hayward Sell of Sanibel. Brother, Gregory Sell (wife Laura Sell) of Woodridge, IL. Sister-in-law Betsy H. Dekker of Sanibel, two nieces, one nephew, cousins and extended family, the Ladleys from Barrington and Northbrook, IL.
George was truly a gentleman and great friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. George worked hard, but competed in sports even harder. Member of the USTA, USGA, Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, and teaching tennis professional. He met his wife Susan giving a lesson at the Woodfield Racquet club in Schaumburg, IL. Information Technology manager for Baxter, Kraft Foods, and retired from Hewlett-Packard. He quickly became completely involved with golf, tennis and billiards here on the island. He was also a very active member at St. Michaels and the Kiwanis club of Sanibel.
Goodbye sweet man, you will be missed by many.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 11:00am at St. Michaels Episcopal Church. 2304 Periwinkle Way Sanibel FL 33957. A reception will follow at Dunes Golf and Tennis Club.
