Sea School to continue to offer select ‘free’ camp days

Due to the great response following the Sanibel Sea School's Hurricane Camp, the nonprofit organization will continue to offer free camps on dates that will help parents when their children are out of school.

Sanibel Sea School Director of Communication Leah Biery said parents began sharing their wish that they would hold additional free camps when their children were out of school. She said in an effort to offer extra support for families, it was obvious to jump on the opportunity.

The first free camp will be offered on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 15, 2018, with a theme of dolphins.

"We will prioritize the days that parents may not have off," Biery said.

The dates of when the camps will be held will be shared on social media - Facebook and Instagram - as well as through the Sanibel Sea School's email list. Those who wish to be placed on the list can email info@sanibelseaschool.org.

Biery encourages everyone to sign up for the list, or like them on Facebook, or follow them on Instagram, so they will have the dates of when the camps are offered.

The dates will be announced one month prior to each camp. Just like all the other camps held at the Sanibel Sea School, each will have its own theme, a creature, or habitat. She said the day will be both educational and fun.

The camp will open for approximately 50 kids, 6 to 13 years old, depending on staffing and the time of year. In addition, eight 13- to 18- year old Counselor's in Training will also be needed for the camps.

Each family will have the opportunity to sign up for two free days a year, to allow everyone with the opportunity to utilize the program.

Biery said the free camp days are made possible by their donors.
