Dozens of local artists, crafters and even authors will take part this weekend in an annual event.

The Center 4 Life will host its annual Arts and Crafts Fair on Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside and outside of the facility. A total of 40 vendors will display their work, which will range from pottery, shell designs, paintings, fabric art and jewelry, to glasswork, photography, woodworking, plants and more.

"We will fill up the whole building with their creations," Eileen Kehoe, event co-chair with Shirley Schulz, said. "It's a community event to raise awareness of the Center 4 Life and what we offer."

Schulz agreed, adding that the fair helps to promote those in the art scene.

"It's really to support the local artists and to showcase them and their work," she said.

Of the participating vendors, Kehoe explained that there is a mix of new and old.

"We do have some of our long-time vendors, who people come back to see every year and buy their handcrafted items," she said. "And we do have new people every year."

Schulz noted that the artists will be offering unique items at affordable prices.

"They're great if you're looking for yourself or for gift items," she said.

Most of the vendors will be set up inside of the facility, however, some will be outside.

The center will also have a booth with informational literature, along with members on hand.

"We'll have our newsletters available for our activities through April," Schulz said.

Kehoe added that the members will be able to answer any questions.

"These are all volunteers, these are all members, who put this on," Schulz said of the event.

Trish Phillips, the center's seniors program manager, called the fair an "island affair."

"They (the members) thought it was an opportunity to give back to the community," she said.

An estimated several hundred visitors turn out for the event every year.

Parking at the facility is limited, but organizers had a suggestion.

"Come on your bike, or carpool with a carload of friends," Kehoe said.

A hot dog lunch will be available starting at 11 a.m. for a minimal cost.

The community is encouraged to stop by.

"It's fun," Schulz said. "The artists are always appreciated."

Kehoe echoed that.

"People love to come back to it every year," she said.
