By Staff | Jan 31, 2018

Nancy Hamilton

A recently published book on the dozens of known and not-so-known things to do on Captiva and Sanibel, as well as the surrounding areas, will be highlighted at the Captiva Memorial Library.

Nancy Hamilton, author of “100 Things to Do in Fort Myers & Sanibel Before You Die,” will talk about her book on Feb. 6 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the library. Published by the Reedy Press on Jan. 15, the book proposes opportunities to explore not only the renowned beaches, waterways and recreational activities, but also the historic and offbeat locales.

“Paddle the calm waters to follow in the wake of the people of the Calusa tribes. Get inspired at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. Take time to go fishing, shelling, birding or island hopping and fully appreciate this natural haven,” the description reads. “Marvel at dolphins jumping in the rolling waves and pelicans diving in the surf for breakfast. Spot endangered West Indian manatees meandering through the mangrove-lined back bays and estuaries.”

The areas covered include: Sanibel and Captiva, Fort Myers Beach, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Estero, Cape Coral, Pine Island and Matlacha, Boca Grande, and more than 100 coastal islands off the mainland, along with North Fort Myers and the inland communities.

“She’s going to be discussing all the different things we can be doing,” Colleen Barany, the senior librarian and branch manager, said. “She’s going to be doing a PowerPoint presentation.”

She explained that the book covers a vary of categories, including food and drinks, music and entertainment, history and culture, fashion and shopping, and more.

“This particular author,” Barany said. “She’s very knowledgeable.”

“100 Things to Do in Fort Myers & Sanibel Before You Die” is a culmination of Hamilton’s 28 years worth of research and fun while she worked at The Chamber of Southwest Florida and the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau. A journalism graduate from Michigan State University, Hamilton moved to the Fort Myers area for a position at the Naples Daily News. She currently works in public relations.

“There will be a question-and-answer session,” Barany said.

Also a book signing, Hamilton will have copies of her book available.

“She’ll have her book here,” she said.

No registration is required to attend the program.

Barany explained that the library routinely hosts visiting authors and more.

“Everything we do is to support the community and support the library’s resources,” she said. “Strengthening our community by informing and enriching individuals.”
