The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Florida Park Service is in the process of updating the unit management plan for Cayo Costa State Park. Citizens are invited to attend a public meeting on March 20 to learn more about the proposed plans for the park and provide feedback.

It will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fishers of Men Lutheran Church in St. James City. There will be a brief presentation at 6 p.m. After, staff will answer questions and accept public comment.

The following improvements are proposed for the updated management plan:

- Improve recreational and interpretive uses of the Pelican Bay Use Area on Cayo Costa by expanding the existing boat docks, relocating the maintenance shop and developing a new visitor center

- Enhance the recreational experience of the park's main Gulf Beach Use Area

- New and improved visitor amenities will include a row of small picnic pavilions along the inland periphery of the beach and a new bathhouse
