'Loaner' life jackets available

April 12, 2018
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

The Sanibel-Captiva chapter of America's Boating Club reminds residents and visitors that they can borrow life jackets from the Sanibel Fire and Rescue District's Station 171, at 2351 Palm Ridge Road. They are available on a daily or weekly basis, and the sizes range from infant to extra large. The life jackets are supplied through a grant from the Sea Tow Foundation. The U.S. Coast Guard requires that a properly fitting life jacket be available for every member on a boat and anyone under 13 must wear a life jacket at all times, unless they are in an enclosed cabin. The Sea Tow Foundation also rents out EPIRBs and PLB Beacons. For more information, visit www.boatingsafety.com. For more about the local chapter, call 239-985-9472 or visit www.usps.org/localusps/sancap.
