Reading in the Refuge

Hear an exciting wildlife-themed story from a naturalist and make a craft about an animal from the estuarine ecosystem at 10 a.m. in the Visitor & Education Center at the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel. For pre-K through sixth grade, but all ages welcome. Program is 45-minutes long. Bailey Homestead: Making the Land Work

A walking tour of the Bailey Homestead Preserve from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. blends SCCF's mission-driven work on the historic property, the history of the land itself and some stories about the Bailey family. Cost is $5 for non-members. Meet at the Conservation Gateway Kiosk at the head of the Shipley Trail, at 3333 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel. For information, call 239-472-2329.

All-Levels Yoga

All-Levels Yoga from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Use of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), mudra, philosophy, meditation and guided relaxation techniques. Instructor is Dr. Susan Pataky. Turtle Tracks

Learn about the life cycles and habits of the sea turtles and shorebirds that nest on Sanibel beaches, SCCF's monitoring activities and what it is doing to protect them from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Nature Center, at 3333 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel. FRIDAY, AUGUST 10

Annual Bag Day

Noah's Ark, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, will host its annual Bag Day event from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Customers may buy marked bags in the parking lot for $4 each, fill them with store goods and walk away with as many items as the bags will carry; any items that do not fit in a bag are 80 percent off the regular price. New Moon Meditation

A New Moon Meditation class will be held at 7:15 p.m. on South Beach on Captiva. Enjoy a guided meditation on the beach as the sun sets and the moon rises. Bring a towel or blanket to sit on. Meet at Alison Hagerup Beach Park, at 14790 Captiva Drive. Cost is a suggested donation of $10-15, with all proceeds to benefit the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation's sea turtle research program. In partnership with George & Wendy's Seafood Grille, F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva sponsors a Friendly Faces Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the restaurant, at 2499 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
