Noah's Ark, located at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, will redecorate for Christmas.

To celebrate, one and all are invited to the first annual Christmas Open House on Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The thrift store will sparkle with Christmas items galore and Christmas cheer for customers.

Noah's Noel will feature complimentary refreshments, including iced holiday cutter cookies with sprinkles, gingerbread men and candy cane cookies, plus a Christmas punch. Santa Claus will pose for photos with customers and there will be raffle giveaways of items from the shop's Christmas stock.

Noah’s Ark’s volunteers John Pryor, Sally McGowan, Harriett Pattison, Mary Jane Proctor, Linda Korn, Jackie Renner, Carol Heath, Bettie Modys, Susie Scutakes, Neva Poole and Adele Mattern get set for Noah's Noel on Dec. 3.

Shoppers will see twinkling lights from a forest of trees and ornaments from all over the world, including many with beach themes. Shelves will be lined with toys, Santas and other items.

A special kitchen section will feature holiday cookbooks, cookie cutters and pans - anything Christmas related. Other items include baskets filled with poinsettias, wreaths, greenery and garlands scattered throughout the store, providing a magical and Old-Fashioned Christmas theme. Christmas books and numerous gift ideas are also available for grandchildren, family and friends.

Noah's Ark chair Adele Mattern described the 80 volunteers as a miracle.

"They come together to do all it takes to run a thrift shop and to provide an essential service to islanders and the island's workers," she said. "The Ark is a welcoming place to shop and to raise money for important causes. I am honored to lead this mission and the wonderful volunteers who work at Noah's Ark. My goal is to continue, and build on, our reputation for service."

Noah's Ark is run by the women of St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church. Proceeds from sales, coupled with monies from the parish's annual budget, benefit local, regional and global charities.

Noah's Ark accepts donations, which can be left at the shop's loading dock; furniture donations are accepted with the approval of the furniture chair. Items should be clean and in good condition.

The store is open weekdays and the first Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The shop will be closed on Dec. 1 in preparation for the event.
