Democratic Club presents monthly guest speaker

The Democratic Club of the Islands will host its monthly meeting on Feb. 21, with guest speaker News-Press cartoonist Doug MacGregor who will present some of his favorite cartoons.

He will talk about how he translates social and political news through his work.

MacGregor has been an editorial cartoonist for more than 40 years, working for newspapers in Connecticut and Florida. A native of Binghamton, New York, he graduated from Syracuse University and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration. MacGregor is a member of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.

He has published six children's books, including his most recent, "Turtellini's Amazing Sky-High Adventures." MacGregor also sings and plays harmonica in rock and blues bands in Southwest Florida.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at The Community House on Sanibel.

It is free and open to the public.

Members are reminded that they will vote on proposed amended by-laws discussed at the January meeting and in subsequent emails. They must be present to vote. A quorum of members is needed to enact the proposed changes.
