The School District of Lee County reported that 85.18 percent of the 18,843 students who participated in the Student Enrollment Lottery received their first choice school for the 2019-2020 school year.

The preliminary data also indicates that 96.24 percent were assigned to a school among their top three choices - both numbers are increases over the assignment results from the 2018-2019 school year.

Students entering kindergarten had the most success being assigned to the school of their choice with 90.59 percent receiving their first pick and 97.84 percent getting one of their first three picks. For students moving into sixth grade, 81.7 percent received their first choice middle school and 95.61 percent were assigned to one of their top three. Of rising freshman, 84.98 percent were assigned to their first choice high school and 95.77 percent to one of their top three choices.

Over the next several months the numbers are expected to improve as vacancies occur allowing students to move into their first choice school.

Significantly, 918 more students chose to use the online application this year, pushing the total of online applications to 4,780. Also, the second year of automatically assigning younger siblings to the same school as their older siblings was a success - 4,295 students were placed this way, twice as many as last year.

Students who did not get their first choice school are automatically placed into the eligibility pool for their first choice school. It is not necessary for parents to call to request placement on a waiting list - it is already done.
