Work commences on EAA Reservoir Project

April 21, 2020
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

The city of Sanibel reported today that it received notice that work has begun on the Everglades Agriculture Area (EAA) Reservoir Project.

The funding and construction of the critically important capital project has been a top priority for the city, as well as the community. The EAA reduces harmful discharges to the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie estuaries and sends more clean water south to the Everglades.

After receiving the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit on April 17, the South Florida Water Management District mobilized and commended construction of the 6,500-acre water treatment component of the EAA Reservoir project - the Stormwater Treatment Area - on April 20.
